Circularity in construction will be a challenge not only for professionals in related industries, but also for educational and official institutions. Efficient, sustainable, climate-neutral management of resources requires different regulation, habits, routines, but above all – a new way of thinking.

Having concluded the research phase of the EU LIFE program and the State co-financed integrated project «Waste to Resources Latvia – boosting regional sustainability and circularity» («Life Waste to Resources»), the Latvian Construction Association (LBA) continues the discussion with participants and supervisors of the construction process to find out the potential obstacles and opportunities for the full implementation of the system in the public and commercial sectors.

In order to present the findings obtained in the research process and the identified tasks for the implementation of the construction circulation system, LBA participated in the annual conference on green public procurement events organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Affairs, where construction has traditionally been among the current topics. Local government procurement specialists are traditionally among the participants of the conference.

To create a meaningful construction materials and construction debris management system, the opinion of the involved practitioners is important to the association on the competences and possibilities of the organizations in implementing circular principles in construction work contracts.

The participants of the conference were invited to participate in the survey on the inclusion of resource circulation principles in the customer’s procurement documentation. The obtained opinions will be collected and used in the creation of the construction circulation system proposal.

The recording of the conference is available here.
